Hi,
I am Yvonne Junor, author, ‘Finding My Rainbow’, a memoir, published here at Busybird in 2023. I am a creative well-being facilitator with a business ‘Rainbow Connexions’, focusing on speaking engagements and group workshops. I have a particular interest in mental health and suicide prevention.
Becoming an author was an overwhelming project for me. I was greatly appreciative of the assistance Les and Kev gave in the whole process, making it much easier and less stressful. There was so much to learn on so many levels; copywriting, editing, marketing, banking, graphic design, business, website design, social media, blogging, just to name a few.
When I began writing my book in 2020, I was starting from scratch, with no previous experience or knowledge. It would be an understatement to say I felt completely out of my comfort zone and in awe of the challenge I had ahead of me.
As any of you who are authors would know, putting your thoughts in writing will probably make you feel vulnerable and it will take courage.
This is felt more acutely when you are writing about yourself. The journey has been unpredictable with many twists, turns, blocks and re-directions along the way.
It became a process of reinventing myself. I approached many people for their advice. I completed many courses on creative writing, Zoom, Microsoft, Canva and Marketing.
The most significant step I took was working with Sue Ellson, as my business mentor. This has been a journey of upgrading my skills and knowledge of LinkedIn, social media, google business, websites, blogging, networking and more. Her patience, skills and knowledge are amazing, and I am fortunate to have her working with me. She says I am one of her best students!
In the beginning, I just had a dream to publish a memoir. But what has happened is I have found an incredible tool to heal from trauma and now I would like to help more people on their journey with insights and inspiration.
To do this, as a writer, I long to reach a greater audience.
However, I go through times of self-doubt, frustration, and questioning as to why have I chosen this pathway.
Sometimes, in the midst of feeling overwhelmed, it is easy to overlook all the positives of being an author.
I now have a sense of pride, achievement and confidence from achieving my goal.
Not only that, I have learned life-long skills and knowledge and I am constantly making new friends and I hope to make some more tonight!
I have grown enormously through this process.
I would like to finish with a brief reading from my book, based on a quote by Steve Jobs.
“It’s a matter of trusting in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever that something is you relate to. It’s this belief – that the future dots will eventually connect – that gives you the confidence to follow your heart. Trusting this process, even when life takes you off the well-worn path, makes all the difference.
But the biggest lesson I have learnt, is to not take things personally! The future is an open book, I am very excited for what opportunities lie ahead, particularly as I have been accepted as a speaker for Beyond Blue. Stay tuned!
