Reflexion - Growing Bolder

Reflexion - Growing Bolder

By Yvonne Junor

Do you wish to grow bolder in your older years?

We all have preconceived ideas around aging, what we may fear, anticipate or hope for. While there are some factors we can’t control that impact how we age, e.g. genetics. There are a number of factors within your control that can influence the quality of your senior years.

  1. The daily habits and choices you make add up to the experience of longevity.

  2. What you think about aging impacts how long you will live, if you complain a lot, lament about getting older, this is very damaging and self-limiting, this internalised agism can stop you from doing things.

  3. Having good lifestyle practises from an early age will hold you in good stead.

  4. Being an optimist, also be aware of mental resilience, because aging is challenging.

  5. Have a close group of people who will travel this process with you in a positive way, because if those people are naysayers of health and aging, this will hold you back because we are the product of the five closest people in our lives.

  6. They will continue to engage with the society around them.

  7. Having lots of meaningful hobbies, (particularly important after retiring from paid work) can give a reason for your existance.

  8. Adjusting your mindset, to quit worshipping your youth and focus on the pearls of wisdome of your age.

Growing bolder and older takes making daily choices, but your health is your wealth.
